NEVADA- April 24,
2010 Las Vegas, Nevada was the scene of the 100th Anniversary
of Boy Scouting in America Exposition. Sponsored by the local scout
council, thousands of scouts and their leaders descended on Sunset Park
to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Three Civil Air
Patrol squadrons from the Nevada Wing were on hand to lend their support
to this event. Henderson Composite, Jim Bridger Middle School, and Jack
Schofield Middle School cadets volunteered for this two day camping
adventure to provide roving safety patrols and emergency first aid
response teams.
Captain David Henderson, commander for the 801st
at Jim Bridger, led his 36 cadet safety cadre with organization and
precision. First setting up
the command post and sleeping quarters, onlookers watched as senior
member Daniel English directed the cadets in a seemingly choreographed
circle of tents. One bystander remarked that “they went up like
dominoes.”
Throughout the two
days, cadets and senior leaders performed their mission in an exemplary
manner. One such example came when a distress call went out that a scout
leader had collapsed. A two cadet emergency first aid response team
consisting of cadet Senior Airman Bevan Bray, and cadet Airman First
Class Trinten English raced into action.
Upon arrival an
immediate and initial assessment was made for heat exhaustion and the
female leader was given cold compresses and kept calm. While taking the
medical assessment, the team realized that there might be more than
meets the eye. With complaints of chest tightness, the camp registered
nurse was summoned.
Under the guidance
for the nurse, the team was allowed to take more medical information and
a history of hypertension and diabetes was uncovered. Asked by the
nurse, “what should you do next?”a unanimous “call 911 for emergency
medical help.” was their response. They briefed the incoming medical
personnel and the scout leader was transported to the nearest medical
facility for further evaluation.
The efforts of the
safety mission prompted a scout official to comment on CAP performance
throughout the weekend. “Highly professional and efficient,” he stated,
“we want you back again next year.”

-- the Internet Client Server Mode. This makes the IMU much faster
and and more stable. Authorized users can download
instructions
for configuring their IMU client.
Dues Increase for FY2009
Nevada Wing has increased its dues for FY2009.
This is in response to a decrease in our state grant (which is based on
the greatly reduced number of gallons of aviation gasoline sold) and
increases in the prices of everything we buy.
The new annual dues for seniors are $72 for
initial membership and $62 for renewals. The new annual dues for
cadets are $30.
There is also a new CAPF 12 (Application for
Membership) posted on the National website. Older versions will
not be accepted after1 Oct 08, so please be sure to get the new form.
